New Wings3D UVMapp-less Plugin , ExtremeUV

for WIN98, Win2000 users. Others to follow.

VERTEX COLOR to texture on complex colored models with press of a button. No artifacting. Ton's of hidden features to learn about. Will be documented in upcoming releases.

I announced beta testing program last night at main Wings3D forum. Since then I have fixed a few of the issues for which I had posted disclaimers.

It's much more robust today for having been rebuilt with -mno-cygwin option under Win32 cygwin.

To become a beta tester , e-mail

This all should compile and link under linux.

Very easily. I don't happen to have a linux box at home. Perhaps I'll compile it for Macintosh some day soon (which is just a linux flavor these days). I have access to Mac at work.

I mean ... I'd very much like to send you the whole mess on CDROM (free Models) just to keep it very simple. You should have all the models to go with the "concept".

Let me know if this sounds like a plan. Otherwise I can just upload the source ... but it's a little out of context w/o the high-poly vertex colored models.

You are obviously a keen programmer and it would be great to have you do this port. I'd appreciate it very much. And if you have any troubles ... I'm sure we could work 'em out together. Like I said ... should be pretty much a straight shot. One thing that is broken right now is the Procedural texture baking. That's because -mno-cygwin seems to lose the random( ) function required by perlin texture tricks. I'll conjure up a somewhat portable random implementation in a separate model soon.

Anyway ... e-mail me at

If you want to do this up, discuss some more.

?

So you select a model and hit UV export , and it cuts the uv's for you and color codes em?

How do you load the exported UV set in another software like maya for example?

ExtremeUV makes an OBJ file. You do the color-coding/charting ahead of time as per the documentation. The color coding information must be transcribed into the XML file. This is much easier than it sounds. A GUI interface could be added internally to Wings to make this easier.

It is compatible with many many apps. Anim8or, UltimateUnwrap, Blender, etc.

This is shown in the video.

The beta test is open to all Win98, Win2000 folks now ...

To those that like to hack ...

The fish's XML document has a wrong partial path as is in the sample folder. If you edit away all but the basic part of the file name and then run as per in the video ... you will see texture baking in action.

The best advice I can give is read the stuff in the Docs folder.
