but i dont think you can do caustics with max 5 by its self.
you need mental ray, fRender, Vray or one of the other plugin renderers.
I could be wrong.

Naw MAX does caustics just fine.

3dsMAX, hit F1 and do a search for caustics, that'll hopefully prove useful in the specific details of how to get it working. Feel free to ask specifics here if something's missing, it's just that I think the helpfile will be able to help in this case :).

thanx for your response i tried to find help on caustics but the user reference says nothing about it, maybe I'll buy a better renderer like vray or brazil in the future for now it is too much for a newbie, first i'll try to improve my modeling skills.
