Anyone out there own or use Lightwave?

I have a lightwave model I bought on TS that had an error on it and needs to be tweaked slightly. I dont use lightwave, but the client needs the file to remain in LW. I was able to make the fix in C4d, and it took me a few minutes. I would assume it would be an easy fix in LW. I'd do it in C4d , but there isnt a good solution for exporting it and keeping the texture data without a ridiculous amount of work.

I actually posted the request in the LW forum, and it got like 150 hits, but only 1 response that didnt pan out and 2 or 3 cynical unfriendly posts. So I thought I'd try here out of desparation.

I'd be willing to barter or compensate someone for there time.

Thanks!

I don't really have an answer for you, but have you tried the forums at NewTek's site?

Thanks Thalaxis

No--hadnt even thought of that. I justy figured thered be a bunch of heavy hitter LW people here (in the LW forum) who could lend me a hand. Also--been in a rush so don't want to scour the world for someone to do this.

I have a complaint in to turbosquid about this issue--but they havent gotten back to me yet. I'm hoping they can just fix the file on there end or at least hook me up with the author of the file.

I know what you mean. The NewTek forums are more like what you'd expect from a CG community forum, though; most of the LW regulars go there, so you can get a lot of help there. The Cinema community congregates here and at PostForum probably because Maxon doesn't have a forum of their own, and so the community formed around what was available, while NewTek has had those fora around for a while.

Either way, I hope you find the fix you needed... I'd have answered you if I knew the answer. :hmm:

:)

Thanks Thalaxis. Nice to hear a friendly voice in a time of stress.

Turbosquid is making the fix--as they should.

I can't believe it. I offerred compensation and the possiibility of an ongoing freelance gig over at LW cgtalk, and just got some insulting / unhelpful remarks.

Hi JoelD,
If you have any more problems, just let me know. I've used LW for several years and I'm sure any fixes would be quick. Any questions just ask. I'm a bit surprised to hear the LW forum shunned you like that. They are usually very helpful. So just PM me for help. If it's nothing major, I can just fix it and kick it back to you. Sorry for your problems in the LW forum

Thanks smfjersey

I finally got a hold of a rep at Turbosquid, and they say they will try to make the correction to the file--since it was their mistake to begin with.

If I don't hear back from them soon I will shoot it to you.

THANKS AGAIN!!

Appreciate your offer!

smfjersey's right, the LW community usually is very friendly and helpful. I can't explain what happened to you.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get it fixed, though!

I'm sure they are.

It could have been me--maybe my request seemed strange, Could have just been an off-day too. Some people thought I was shady--maybe cause they havent seen me post in that forum b4.

That's very disappointing. Were you able to get it fixed?

Glad to hear it!

I just joined a local LightWave users group, which should have the effect of jumpstarting my learning, so maybe the next time someone runs into a problem like that, I'll be able to do more than be friendly :)

I would just like to add. For those cynics who thought Joel might not be shooting straight. He did compensate me, and in a very timely fashion.

Thanks Joel
