Anyone here familiar with Pocoyo?
Apparently it's all done in XSI. I'm trying to get a look similar to this for my own animations. I'm not quite sure how they're achieving it. Final Gathering? Ambient Occlusion? Can anyone here shed some light on how you'd get a final image that looked similar to this?

Everybody loves the Pocoyo look! I wish XSIBase would do an interview with the animators.
My guess is it's all AO. There's also this interesting XSI-Blog post on getting a similar effect by using a large spherical area light: http://www.xsi-blog.com/archives/166

AO is more than enough for this style I guess... It's TV show, do'nt over complicate it

Ambient Occlusion.....that makes sense. My only problem with Ambient Occlusion is that I can't seem to get my renders to look like that with it.
I did some tests with Final Gathering and got results very similar to Pocoyo. But I'm not sure how practical FG is for production animation on a tight schedule.
So I'd just do an AO pass and then combine it with the beauty pass? Man, I really need to read up on how passes work.
I use After Effects for compositing. How do you go about combining these passes in another app like AE? I tried some tests using different "blending modes" but it didn't seem to work right. I must be doing something wrong.
Anyway, thanks for the help with this!
AO and FG I done some renders for a client and got it in the same area so to speak.
( tiding it up when the full contract starts )
You can uses FG in production it's not a Major Hit compaired to GI anyway
and with AO in your shaders and FG the whole scene it's pretty cool
Keep playing you'll get it :thumbsup:

They are using the arnold renderer, but i don t know how.

Everyone loves Pocoyo! They even got Rebeca Puebla and Jacobo Barreiro in the crew.
They're not using Arnold render anymore, after all, pmg bought it for messiah.
I read somewhere they were using Animated Pixel renderer:
