Hi, I'm studying BA (Hons) Animation Design at De Montfort University, Leicester, England and I'm having problems with deleting history off my character's mesh which is slowing his movement down. I've just done blend shapes for my head and whenever I delete history from it I lose everything I've done for it. Same problem with my body where since it's already binded to my original skeleton, I delete the history and it unbinds itself from the skeleton. Is there a way of deleting the history without losing my blend shapes or having to rebind my character, if yes or no what is the solution to it?

Hope I have the right section since I'm new here.

Thanks.

Hey Sonic, im not familiar with blend shapes and history, but I am with skinning. The process I use is to save out the vert weighting of the skin (using micheal comets tool, cometSaveWeights, http://www.comet-cartoons.com/melscript.php ). Then detach the skin, delete the history, put a fresh skin on there and just re apply verts with the script again. Sounds more difficult then it really is. Hopefully that helps and best of luck with the blend shapes.

Yeah, I'm in the middle of re-rigging my character now. Cheers for the help.

Still stuck with the blend shapes/history though. I forgot to say I'm working on Maya 7.

try separating the blend shapes, unbinding skin then delete your history. you should also be able to delete history on blend shapes seperatly with no problem. it shouldnt slow you down that much, not sure if i fully understand your problem though
- good luck!!

if you just want to delete blendShapes, you can select the blendShape node alone and delete it. So you have only skinCluster in your history. Now if you want to add belndShapes you can add using Front of Chain so it automatically goes below the stack.

Hope it helps

I think in Maya 7 there is a "delete non deformer history" option, which deletes all modelling/textureing history but keeps deformers like blend shapes and skinning data. Its in the same menu as the regular delete history option.
