Yikes!
You don't seem to be able to import an ai file through the objects menu in R10.

Had me puzzled this for a while also until I remembered that .ai files have to be in Illustrator r8 format,

then just use File->Open

I hope that is what you mean anyway :)

The Help file should really explain this :rolleyes:

is there a way to import AI 8.0 file with its colors also? It imports only the strokes.

looking at the tutorial CD, I found that you don't use "open" you go to file >merge to import the illustrator file.

thanks - you live and learn :)

Open worked for me, but I'll use Merge from now on

Both are fine, C4D after all allows multiple documents to be open and copy/pasting between them, so work whichever way is best fo ryou, yous houdl also be able to drag & drop them in from their folder or posibly from the browser too. In terms of illustrator colors, then no sorry, it just see's the splines. If they're complex and you're planning on using them for textures then it's best to rasterize them first in photoshop and just use the bitmap (I don't know of any plugin to allow the use of an illustrator file as a texture unfortunately).
