View Full Version : Drop-047 and HH-047
braam 02-21-2003, 08:21 AM Here are the conceptual sketches drawn by highly-talented Hennie Blaauw (http://www.wickedpixels.com/hennie), who is very kind to give me some of it. It is just for my animated short film entitled "Grainwood Sewer". I decided to start the below one first (HH-047 = Human Harvester).
Drop-047 is dropping HH-047 on the cement bank by flowing sewer to harvest endangered humans who had shrunk into the dimension of standard insects to live in the oozing sewers. Robots are well programmed to perform their masters's longed wish - to diminsh humans. Modern Insects (envolved into the size of humans) are robots' mean masters...
I am gonna use Maya 4.5 for all pipelines.
Have your say? :D

Early in modelling phase. I included the picture of a leg region where I decided to start. I also add gif animation to give you idea how the knee joint will rotate.
Since the conceptual sketches did not provide 100% information about its volumes, I can add-and-model them with my imagination. Please ignore its colors, it is for the color seperation.
Please take note that red geometry in gif animation is just the indication of where the upper-biped should be positioned.

Still working around one leg. I find it very challenging to create a leg that is wicked enough when animated. Beside that, I have to balance it between believable and rig-able. I replaced the smooth one, as in conceptual sketches, to hard edged leg-limb. I prefered working on hard-edged surfaces, because it is more robotics.

I have been working on Yardley, Duravil and 2D animation lately. I finally got time and energy to continue the model. The gray region in attached image is still in progress. Modelling except L&T (Lighting and Texturing) in other region is done.
The rough 3d objects above the legs are just for the layout.

I hate seeing work like this because it makes my stuff look like crap. lol
Seriously, I love those pictures. The details you put into it are awesome and I can't wait to see it animated. If I may ask, what kind of technique are you using for it? NURBs, polygons, etc?
Thanks for sharing with us. Please keep the updates coming. :)

Tony Richardson, bJekX, LittleBoy and Hexodam - I appreciated your feedback and I will add some interesting stuff including wireframe...
Caman0 - thanks, Dave Wilson once belonged to Wicked Pixels, but unfortunately he is currently working for Blur Studio. For me, he is 3D genius. Animation version of Seth inspired me to create advanced Human-Harvester which in turn inspiring me to create the Drop. Keep playing!
LordPhobos - It is same to me, I hate to see some work that is beyond my reach, but it is normal to do so. With this, it inspire you to do something amazing to satisfy yourself. Anyway, thanks for complimenting on my work. My work is capable of animation. I used mixed techniques (nurbs and polygons) since nurbs is ideal for velvety surface and polygons for blocky, hard-edged, robotic parts. Keep playing because we grow old... :-)

question? is that all polygon modeling???
i sure hope so..cause i'm not big in the whole splines nurbs thing and i want to make sure there is hope for me

Darius43321 - Mostly, yes.
I used mixed techniques (nurbs and polygons) since nurbs is ideal for velvety surface and polygons for blocky, hard-edged, robotic parts.
The nurbs torus is capable to animate start and end sweep, so it is ideal to use as expandable pipe for "knee" joint rotation. It is hard to explain, but you will see how it work when it is animated. Hopefully it will be finished by the next month.

lol just had a fun idea
you shouldnt make it a harvester, make it a gun
like where you have that big cilinder-body now, make that a tube (Bigass barrel)
then its like a walking bigass gun :D
btw, dave wilson is da man he inspired me to make my tech stuff too :)

New image. Please take note that the nose and tail pieces is just for the layout, so you could sense the general shape. L&T is still in progress. It is starting to look very wicked.

Hi guys,
I am working on some textures around its repentae (yellow thorax) and it is really fun to develop ideas during the process. Inside a yelllow brittle ball, which clutching at its tail, is a special chemical Gas that will put humans into trance as soon as it is deflated. There are different colored balls, produced by metal organs in its abdomen, for several purposes.
Yellow ball = Special Chemical Gas
Red ball = Bomb
Blue ball = Net to put Human into stationary positions.
Green ball = Mass Destructor
I am putting different signs on each balls to recognize their characters. Head is just around the corner. Any C & C and ideas welcome.
Cheers

These latest images are awesome, the model is very cool (love those legs!). :)
As far as the textures, I think they're coming along great. I wanted to know if you were still working on the leg textures because they seem unfinished when compared to the head and thorax (both of which look great).
Do you think you'll have any problems animating the feet? Big feet can be difficult (for me at least).

Thanks Neison, I am still texturing my baby and I will paint some great textures for legs. I agreed your comparision. It is already rigged and I didn't have problem with animating. I am not going to post the animation, because I don't want to spoil the surprise.

nice....the head makes me think of the brainbug in starship troopers.. :D
:surprised
Everything is great, legs are totally cool. Very detailed and shit... But the head... It looks like two testicles...
