hey kieran, I like your reel, its so consistent :)

you really got potential, and Im serious

but anyway I ll try my best to critisize your work ok

the lighting set is my favorite, especially the night mode! you got the mood
for the day mode, the blue bg look a little bit oversaturated, try to put less saturate
on the BG it will create more depth

I love the kawaii jap gurl, sluuuuurrrrrppp :p
especially the patterned kimono texture.
however u need some more research when you doing the face. the nose is a little bit too long for a little girl.
for the eyes, what kind of emotion you wanna show? for me now its look like bedroom eyes. no matter how calm she smile, she must look cheerful instead of lazy.

for the last scene, the dragon, i like the model you have there its nice!
but the skin color could be better, for me now its look a bit waxy. some more research on that dragon scale would make that dragon kick ass!


btw kieran, it was nice to be ur classmate! u put so much effort in your work
and I know it :), dont stop learning its all just the begining of everything!

Your hard work over this past year (and last 6 monts especially) have paid off. I love the wisps of smoke.

Crits:

One thing that is really standing out to me right now are the loose strands of hair that are crashing through the right side of the girls head. I'm sure that is just one of those things you didn't have time to fix.

Hey Kieran, awesome reel! :)

Being a term ahead of you, it was great seeing your skills evolve and I'd say your hard work definitely paid off.

I agree with Steve on the bits of hair on the sides, and my other crit is that although pretty, her hair is a solid colour, and even if she's young I'm sure she'd have some kind of variation in colour were it a real human being. The fact it was a perfect black kinda made her hair almost "doll-like", although very pretty looking. Love the rest though!

Oh, and very fitting music. Good choice!

EEEE! Hey Kieran! I'm so happy for you for finishing such a cool demo reel!

I still think the color on the dragon (esp. the whiskers) is too saturated, but whatever i'm sure you'll just keep improving all aspects of your artistic skills ( and technical ones, too) like you have this past year. I REALLY like the set though, the lighting on that one is awesome. I agree with Arif ("love the kawaii jap gurl, sluuuuurrrrrppp :p" hahahaahahahaksjh) that the night time one is especially nice.

I can't wait to see more stuff from you and to collaborate with you on something! Take care and keep in touch!

Hi Kieran,

Congrats for finishing the reel (as well as school), got one comment about the Japanese room though, I think the motion of the smoke from the inscent is a little bit over-exaggerated considered you were trying to establish a "calm mood" for the environment, especially "in-door" room, the smoke would be so different from what we usually see in the temple (both real ones and Holywood ones)... now it's a little distracting.

Anyway, good job and good luck!

first and foremost congrats on finishing - i know it's a labour camp :scream:

You write that it's a modeling reel but you've started it as if it was a lighting reel instead, which seems weird... I mean, as a modeler you should be showing off your best model first and the room's rather simple in comparison to the other 2 models - IMO
I personally liked the last model most of all!:)

also I found the blurry fades really annoying - combined with a rather slow music and tempo of presentation it made me sleepy - you might want to consider speeding at least one of those up!

really nice how it turned out man, the lil girl and the dragon are awesome, i really like the lighting in your set moodwise.
The only things i noticed is that the dragon colormap is a little too clean but that is basicly just personal preferrence, the bump and model are awesome.

that's a really nice piece you put together here... i especially like what you did to the first piece... all the little detail (smoke, branches in the background move, the flag on the wall waves a little) makes the thing come to live...

i've never seen the dragon before... looks really good... altough i think it could look a little worn out, maybe a couple of scars here and there... but that's just personal preference of course...

good luck finding a job... i'm sure it's not gonna be too hard for you...

Those long hours really paid off for you. You busted your ass to rock everyone elses. The lighting on the scene and the bump on the dragon are the highlights for me; very tight.

My only crits are that the whisker tendrils on the dragon seem a bit stiff to me, and the color map is a bit bright. Your stuff is really pro overall. It was great studying with you at VFS. You really deserve my first post on CGtalk.

I really like the Japanese girl myself. I think the subtle folds of the clothes was well done, and for some reason I found myself checking out her hair alot (don't ask it must be a fettish thing). The dragon was pretty cool too, very stylisitc and not the usual stereotypical style. Good exploration on ideas. By the way the scaling textures looked good too.

I think I'd agree with an earlier post about the first room though. Too simple, and the shift light scheme's distract from what your reel is focused on (modeling). If it were me, I'd strip it out of your reel altogether.
