I just installed max and downloaded the beginner videos from 3dbuzz.com, and he says that going from the 4 view to just having one view be full screen, to press "w" and thats the hotkey. But when I hit the "w" key, it goes into the move tool, kinda like maya.

So my question is, what is "w" supposed to do? and how do i get full screen with max 5.0?

Also, could maya prefs be interfering with max..?

The "W" key should show the active viewport full-screen.
You could check (and also change the hotkey settings): Go to customize->Preferences->Keyboard. Under command "Maximize View (toggle)" you should change your hotkey to "W" (Or use the hotkey that's assigned to it now)

tubby, what on earth do you mean "kinda like"?

Tom N., I don't see how your Maya preferences could interfere with MAX, the settings for each program is stored in completly seperate places. All is well :) The tutorial you're reading is simply using, as the others say, shortcuts for MAX R4, but you're on MAX R5.

I think gaggle was trying to over-analize the problem :) He just meant the keys are similar, not some preference override software glichy mumbo jumbo :)
