View Full Version : I've lost my keyboard shortcuts!
LFShade 02-21-2003, 05:37 AM I was working in Max, doing some touch-ups on a script I'm writing, and suddenly - poof! - all my keyboard shortcuts stopped working, including the default ones. I tried toggling the shortcut override; no joy. I tried reloading the default UI, still nothing. I tried restarting my computer, still not fixed. Anybody got any idea what might have happened? I'm not too warm to the idea of uninstalling/reinstalling Max, since I've got a ton of customization to set back up if I do that (I don't want to reuse my UI files, in case they're corrupted).

Baring you having saved your UI post-corruption, one could argue that the UI files themselves are alright, as you've been running with those for however long without issues. Hence if you load those into a fresh MAX they shouldn't f*ck things up.
That's all theory of course, so...
I don't have anything actually helpful to say on this though, I've... never heard about shortcut-looseage.. bummer.. How's about the Flash overlay on the splash screen, has it just gone completly blank as well?

LFShade, what does the output of the 'write Keyboard Chart' look like ??
any chance you got you're keboard shorts at home as well ??
or at the office, depending which of the two lost your keys.
you might try and put that one back.

Okay, folks, thanks for the help! At this point, I've pretty much tried everything I could think of - importing other UI files, kbd files, reinstalling the 5.1 update (in hopes of overwriting a corrupt file somewhere), exorcism, blessing with holy water, etc. :p Nothing worked!. I finally resolved myself to uninstall/reinstall, and hopefully reimporting my UI setup won't turn out to be a bad thing. Wish me luck

You tried deleting your .ini file? I'd try that before taking the nuclear option, re-installing from scratch can be a nightmare sometimes.

Iain -
Glad you answer quickly, since I had not yet tried killing the ini file. Let's see if that works...
[EDIT]
...nope!
Preparing to go nuclear :hmm:

I'm suddenly strangly reminded of Independence Day. Or Aliens for that matter.
Which is not altogether bad mind you.

Okay, I'm back up and running, with UI intact and shortcuts functional. This is one for the X-files, as I just have no idea what could have happened. I'll bet it was just one of my mad-scientist-like script-o-riffic experiments gone wrong. I don't recommend trying this trick at home, kids :D
