San Francisco Siggraph is honored to present:
Industrial Light & Magic's visual effects reels that have been submitted
for consideration to the Visual Effects Branch of the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences. This branch determines the final nominations
in the best visual effects category for the Academy Awards.
Film clips from STAR WARS: EPISODE II "ATTACK OF THE CLONES", MINORITY
REPORT, HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS and MEN IN BLACK II will
be presented by lead creative artists from ILM at this special San
Francisco Siggraph Showcase Event.

ROB COLEMAN
Animation Director
Industrial Light & Magic

Rob Coleman joined Industrial Light & Magic's team of animators in 1993
to work on The Mask. Prior to ILM, Coleman received his Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree from the classical film animation program at Concordia
University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1987. After graduation he
worked in Toronto, at the National Film Board of Canada and at a number
of small animation studios.
At ILM, Coleman has focused his efforts on the combination of live
action and animated characters. He is especially interested in raising
the quality and acting performance of the digital creatures, and works
to help ILM's animators understand that they are actors too.
Coleman recently directed the animation for Star Wars: Episode II
"Attack of the Clones," which featured 70 minutes of animation including
the new digitally animated version of the legendary Yoda character.
Coleman has been nominated for two BAFTAs for his work on Men In Black
and Star Wars: Episode I "The Phantom Menace," an Academy Award
nomination for his work on "The Phantom Menace," and most recently an
Academy Award nomination for his work on Star Wars: Episode II "Attack
of the Clones."
Coleman will return to direct the animation on Star Wars: Episode III,
which will begin principal photography in 2003.
JOHN ANDREW BERTON, JR.
Visual Effects Supervisor
Industrial Light & Magic

John Berton joined Industrial Light & Magic's computer graphics team in
1990 to work on the feature film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He holds a
B.A. degree in Communications and Film from Denison University, and an
M.A. in Art Education/Computer Graphics from Ohio State University.
Prior to ILM, Berton created computer animation and electronic music for
both commercial and artistic productions including Cranston/Csuri
Productions, Ohio Supercomputer Center, Ohio State University and Mental
Images GmbH.
TOM BERTINO
Animation Director / Visual Effects Supervisor

Tom Bertino joined Industrial Light & Magic in 1986 as supervisor of the
rotoscope department. He contributed his talents to a number of feature
projects, including Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Death Becomes Her, The
Abyss, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? In 1993, Bertino brought his skills
in traditional animation and rotoscope to a successful career in
computer graphics animation.
Beginning his professional animation career with Sally Cruikshank in
1978, Bertino has worked for Nepenthe, DIC, Hanna-Barbara and Colossal
Pictures in a number of capacities including character design,
storyboards, layouts, voices and sound effects.
In 1995, Bertino was nominated for an Academy Award for best achievement
in visual effects and received a B.A.F.T.A. nomination in the same
category, for the groundbreaking computer graphics imagery he created in
The Mask.
LINDY DE QUATTRO
Sequence Supervisor

Lindy De Quattro joined Industrial Light & Magic in 1997 as a Technical
Director. As a sequence supervisor at ILM, De Quattro is responsible
for developing techniques to create visual effects in upcoming films and
developing the look for those effects. She has been involved in such
complicated projects as the water in The Perfect Storm, the raining
frogs in Magnolia and the magical snow in Jack Frost.
Prior to joining ILM, De Quattro worked as a programmer at Intel
Corporation. She also worked as a technical director for both R.
Greenberg and Associates - Los Angeles and Sony Pictures High Definition
Studio. She then worked as the lead technical director and a
commercials supervisor at Warner Brothers Digital Studio.
De Quattro is from Los Altos, California. She received a Bachelor of
Arts degree in both Fine Art and Computer Science from the University of
California at Berkeley. De Quattro holds a Master of Fine Arts degree
in Film, Video, and Computer Animation from the University of Southern
California School of Cinema-Television as well as a Master of Science
degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California
School of Electrical Engineering.
STEVE BRAGGS
Computer Graphics Supervisor
Industrial Light & Magic

Steve Braggs joined Industrial Light and Magic in1994 to work on the
film Dragonheart as a Computer Graphics Technical Director.
Braggs was born and raised in England, where he worked in the video and
film post-production industry for nine years prior to joining ILM. He
worked on numerous award-winning commercial, television and film
projects throughout Europe. Braggs moved to the United States in 1993
when he was recruited by Pacific Data Images for his expertise in the
animation and visual effects industry.
BILL GEORGE
Visual Effects Supervisor
Industrial Light & Magic

Bill George has worked on visual effects projects for almost 20 years.
He started building miniatures in Los Angeles for Greg Jein in 1979 and
then joined Industrial Light & Magic in 1981. Bill has worked over the
years as model shop supervisor, art director, matte painter, commercial
director and visual effects supervisor. Some highlights of his career
include: miniature construction and design on Blade Runner, art
direction and design for five of the Star Trek films, directing over 30
commercials at ILM. and overseeing model construction on Ghostbusters 2
and Alive. In 1988, he received an Academy Award for Best Visual
Effects for his work on Innerspace.
