Hello,

This here is my interpretation of Anne Rice's Akasha the Queen of the Damned. I based her on the movie version and combined it more with Anne's descriptions... So it's pretty much a combination of Aaliyah and what I thought to be a good representation of what I've read. Any Comments?

i really dig this still, semi cartoon, semi realistic kinda thing. I think the coloring is good, but i would prefer to see more of a cartoon/comic type of coloring process, just cuz i like that sort of thing:p i think its good work.

Very solid drawing, I really like the drawing style and the character design.

Shading/colour wise, the jewellery is excellent, as is the hair. The drapery is good, but the skin lacks something for me. The colour seems off, she's more olive skinned than vampiry and the shading style is too contrasty. Skintones tend to have softer, more subtle highlights and be more uniform.

Great piece though, and refreshing style. :applause:

Hey thanx everyone,

Here's a detail of her face ( notice the veins), Anne Rice describes their skin to be almost like marble, I'm still working on achieving the right results with other vampires I have. Pending on response I might post a detailed coloring process.

Here's where the progress all starts, the pencils. Later I'll proceed with the rest of the process. If you got any questions feel free to ask.

Well here it goes, the skin. I usually start laying down my colors in paiter on a 95% layer. I try not to use or combine any colors in Photoshop, I think they look way to synthetic. Painter mixes colors in a much better way I think. Once the colors are down I take the piece to photoshop and refine the blends with the smudge tool. I also duplicate the pencil area sometimes and multiply it on top of the colors with very low opacity.

Next is the details on the skin, made in photoshop. Most of the time I work on the face for quite a while. In this case I had to show her veins in a subtle way so I drew them out on a separate layer and then turned the opacity down to where they showed without looking too weird or ugly...

Thanx Gremlin. Anyways here's the clothing. I chose purple since it is a royal color. I made it kind of redish in some areas to insinuate blood a little. Again nothing mixes colors like Painter does. After that is back to Photoshop to refine.

Here's how the metallic parts start. Pretty much the same as the other stuff. I get the colors in painter and then I multiply the pencil lines on top with photoshop...

Well I've posted a couple other things before and I've been asked how I get my lines clean... Well there are probably better ways out there but here's what I do.
I actually make a polygonal lazo selection around what I'm cleaning uppolygonal lazo selection and then I go to Select> Modify> Smooth and I smooth the selection by 3-5 pixels. This produces a pretty curvy selection, sometimes I also feather the selection by 1-2 pixels. Last I erase and refine the line work in and out of the selection. If you got any questions about this just ask. I'll gladly answer them.

And again after some time of sharpening details with smudging and extra brush strokes in Painter here's the end result. I wish I could put a background to the fullshot but I'm not to good at that and I can't think of one... Any suggestions?

Background sugestions:

- blue -> darkblue gradient like something.

- Night sky with moon.

- forest.

- tomb.

- graveyard.

Right, those are a few. You should be able to do something with those :p

No problem. My pleasure ;)

Anyway, the background looks good. It adds to the image, and it doesn't draw more atention, wich sometimes happens.

the design is nice, but i can't get past the anatomy. it looks like you learned to draw people from comic books :/ good style in general, just needs a little more study.
