I created a head and an ear as totally different objects. Then i made a whole for the ear in the head and combined them and merged the vertices. But for some reason the edge around the ear still creates a crease and maya still conciders it a border edge. How do i solve this problem?! Thanx!

There is a general step-through of what must be done to combine polys, and missing any of those steps can result in what you described. Since I'm not sure exactly what steps you have done and which you haven't, I'll just type down all of them, and you can double check if you have done everything:

- Combine the two objects into a single poly object.
- Make sure the normals are all facing the same way for both pieces, and flip them if necessary (This is one is usually the reason most of the time).
- Merge Vertices.
- Merge Edges.
- Soften all normals.

Hopefully, doing all the steps will create a seamless union between the objects. Let me know how it goes. :)

nevermind...i read about it in the help files.

Thanx soo much! i would have never figured out the problem. i never even heard of normals before now!

thanx again
