View Full Version : Preventing "backface" selecting..

Hey..

I'm working on my first car, and atm doing the front.. I moved the front blueprint forwards, so I only see the splines I need to see for the front, but I just found out I still can select those behind the blueprint! No big harm done tho' =) but I'm wondering if there's any way to prevent this..

Thanks from a n00b at 3DSM, Wetatron.

Uh, I'm not in front of my max at the moment but...

Toggle "Ignore Backfaces" on in the Modifier pull down.

Whenever you take a break read your manual.

I know about "ignore backfaces" for editable meshes, poly's and stuff.. But I'm trying to do this car by spline modelig, and I don't find that option for an editable spline

Never quite "got" box modelling yet, and I think spline modelling is quite cool ;) "Building a model line for line, point for point.." :p

Anyways, thanks for the help so far..

O.K., sorry dude. I'll have to have a boo at max when I get home. I just have CAD stuff at work. Good luck in the meantime...

you can either hide the objects behind the blueprint or freeze them. the later one will allow you to still see the objects but you can't select them.

I don't seem to be able to neither hide, nor freeze vertices.. It won't let me.. :annoyed:

in the subobject mode you can hide selections. it`s very usefull to use selection sets.

Ok, I'll look into it, a bit better explanation would help tho'..

I'll check back tomorrow tho', off to bed now :)

Thanks y'all!

The full story on hiding selections goes something like this:

"In the spline rollout there's a Hide Selection button, it hides your selection."
:)

"Geometry rollout > Hide"

- Is it always this easy? :buttrock: :buttrock:

Thanks a lot man, I should start looking around harder I guess, it's a shame not to find that one :hmm:

would've been easier for us to figure out if you told us it was a different object you wanted to hide, not an actual part of the object you were working on.

keep that in mind for next time ;)

another solution would be to go just below the hide rollout and freeze the splines you don't need. that way, you can still see them but you won't be able to select them. [as allready mentioned somewhere up this thread]

cheers.

The verts I'm hiding are a part of the current object, the car.. So I guess you misunderstood, sorry if I was unclear at some point..

all's cool
