Hello
Hey i think that the general design looks good and clean But i find that the those boxes around the general layout lack organization,,,just maybe. If it is going to be flash and include animation then i cant say...then they may be ok .
anyways give me few hint on what to you want to achive and maybe i have some more comments.

Thanks for your comment Arlekin, I have worked on the site quite a lot and I really improved it.
Here is the updated version: http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6228/portfoliofinishcopymh1.jpg
If someone has any suggestions on the animations it would be gladly appreciated.

I liked the first one better. Rreallly try to utilize the screen size aspect ratio. This design is sort of more cubic than rectangular first of all. Also have variation: in size, and shapes...maybe not so much that as saturation and opacity of colors in the layout. Thats the first thing I saw: knock some of those red back a little bit so theyre more pinkish is one possiblility. I like the gradiation tho in the bottom red box in the first one. Id push that reflection effect a little more.

..i still think that the last one is better since you can read it better as a whole....maybe something could be done spacewise but this is personal preference... Good luck improving it further...

The second one is great, I would just suggest that for the links in your lists you should have thumbnails instead of text. and something other than squares would look good, like rectangles would be nice.
