Hello there, I have some troubles with displacement along sharp-edged objects (in this case, a kind of stick)

i'll let the images speak for themselves:

http://mlkdesign.online.fr/dump/objfile.gif

http://mlkdesign.online.fr/dump/uvlayout.jpg

and the trouble is:

http://mlkdesign.online.fr/dump/uvanddisp.jpg

(i rendered the uv mesh ontop of the displacement)

This is probably ridiculously easy to correct, but I'm clueless... My disp map is a neutral 50% gray in the troubled area, so why is there displacement going on ?

thanks for your kind help

mlk

*bump*

Sorry for the bump, but I still haven't found any way to resolve my problem.

Should displacement simply not be used with hard angled objects?

are you rendering with mental ray or maya software?

I think you should use the approximation editor:
window/rendering editor/mental ray/approximation editor

Once you're in, clik on create (on the "displace approx") and edit.
Choose the "fine high" preset, chek your mental ray render setting on "production" and try again...
