View Full Version : Rendering a Parachute in mental ray

I need ideas on rendering a parachute similar to the one in the attached image.

Is it logical to make the whole structure a double layer as if to simulate the real material - and then use SSS?

any tips or ideas welcome

I would recomend first trying the translucent thin walled functionality on the mia_material. If it provides sufficient visual quality, then it's probably going to be the best way to do it.

Even the default translucent slider on the standard maya shders can produce good results...

Just remember to give the material just a tinny bit of transparency to get it to function even 1% is enough.
