Ok I got a video of white text on a black background. I have a video of some fire and I want to put them together so that the text shows FIRE instead of white, but the background is still black. You know what imsayin? :D

First off, read up on the documentation :)
Then, check up on keying and masking, if it's a static image of text you could just add an alpha channel in photoshop to make the steps less.
With the mask in place and activated you can just place the fire in it's own layer underneath.
It should be really easy to find out how to do this, but if not, I'm going on holliday for four days so I can't help you anymore til I get back. Good luck
