I have a human model in Maya that I want to put clothing and pieces of armor/jewelry on it. What's the best way to rig the clothing geometry so that it moves with the human model. What techniques do you guys use that's the most efficient? Thanks for any info.

go syflex. lots of tuts and examples on their site. hint - the syflex engine can be used way beyond cloth simulations...

If you are not using a cloth simulation, and you want to use deformers to drive the clothes then just make sure that the edge loops on the clothes are roughly in the same place as the loops on the body, then the clothes will follow the body nicely as it deforms.

Once you have done this you can skin the clothes to the same skeleton that drives the skin.

Alternatively, you can use a wrap deformer to driver the clothes, using the skin as the driver. But you dont get as much control over the deformations as you do with skinning.

Also wrap defoemers are really slow, and they generally stop working if you scale the character, so you have to delete the wrap and re apply it if you change the character's size.

without using a cloth sim...
I think Maya might be able to do this now (don't know where - been a long time) but in Houdini in cases like this I subdivide the body > then Attibute Transfer the weighting info from the subdivided body to the clothes...
this will get you 80-90% of the way there...and is good for complex crap like belts, buttons etc
