View Full Version : 3D studio Max transparency?
I have couple of question toward the transparency settings in 3DSMAX. I have been using XSI for quite a while on 3D modeling, but the problem when it comes to 3Dsmax the transparency settings are totally different. I know to get transparency effect i'll have to tune down the opacity of the material, but is there a way to to make the transparency effect without losing the coloring of it at all? I tried putting the opacity to "5" since I think that's the effect I want to go for, but it turned out the colors are being taken away... which works the same as Photoshop's opacity. I tried look around and played around with advanced transparency but still I can't get the effect of the original color with transparency can someone here please help me out by giving me some idea on what i should do to keep the original color with the transparency effect?
Thanks in advance!

You might want to try out a raytraced texture and play with the transparancy rollout?

Try changing the filter colour from grey to the diffuse colour in the advanced transparency section of the extended parameters.

there might be a different method to achieving the effect you're going for, but we'll need to see a picture to know what that is. there might be a different approach than just turning down the opac. levels.
if you do what blu said you get something like this..

although if you do what egyt said you probably will have more control

look for a setting called EXTRA LIGHTING [in the raytrace material] or add some SELF ILLUMINATION in the standard material. maybe if you post a pic or a file we can help more.
Try adding a key down with your desired value (from 0-1) in the visibility track of your object. Select your object, right click go to trackview selected ( or curve editor Max5), then select the object in the track view, add a visabilty track, lay a key or two down on it, right click on the key and give it a value (0.5) or whatever.
