Is there any way of improving the accuracy of a camera mapped texture in the viewport, because it is a bit all over the place, and not terribly helpful for working with interactively. You need to keep rendering to see the effect of tweaks. (v9.6 here - maybe v10 sorts this out?)

you can set your texture preview size in the illumination tab of your material. setting it to 1024 should improve matters.

also make sure that your geomety is subdivided enough, otherwise the texture will be - as you said - all over the place

Thanks guys.
Yep that is the problem CB. I was using an extruded spline object, and the caps were weirdly subdivided. After changing my spline type to uniform and my caps to regular grid, my geometry is more regular, and it is looking much closer to what it should do.

In V10 enhanced OGL should sort this sort of thing out (though i've not tried it yet in this situation).
