HiHo!

I am working a a short (=fun project) and have just finished a walk-cycle for my "Gnom" character.

Any feedback on my character design and animation would be very welcome.

The animation can be viewed here:

or the mpeg can directly be downloaded here: http://members.aol.com/lschock/movies/gnomWalk_800x600.mpg

Its a good start, the first thing I would change would be the way in wich the foot leaves the floor. From what i can see the foot looks like it is snapping back as opposed to lifting off. This may be beacuse you wanted to make it look like he was pusing offthe floor, but it really dosn't work and looks very un-natural, its like he's trying to walk on ice and as he pushes off the floor his foot slips. Hope that makes sence. On a more positive note i like the way you've used the finger movement to add some weighting to the walk (at the backward extension of the arm) the wrist roll at that point also works wel. Nice belly movment perhaps change the weighting so it has less invluence on the chest as much. Like i said a good start.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply and very professional critique. I will experiment with a different foot behaviour - personally I like the comic-style "flip back" of bare feet, but maye I overdid it... :-)

The blendshape with the belly going up - I saw it after I rendered it, but didn't get to change it yet - it pushes in a little too much.

As next step I want to make the troll pull his toy dog behind himself on a string... I will post as soon as I have something new.

Best regards,

Leander.
