View Full Version : Maya fur problem!
rodrigoxis 01-12-2007, 06:04 AM Hey guys! Please, can anyone help me with fur? I have a problem with some non furry peaces of a geometry. After add all the features and adjustaments, some body parts of my subD character stays nude, like biceps, hand and foot. My uvs are ok and the baldness attr is set correctly. Looking around the help i found some "solutions" like paint equalizer maps, swith the options of the Calc. Area Values for off (I tried Globally too XD), and some others. Unfortunatly any of these options solved me problem. In earlier versions of maya, we had a option for enable equalizer maps in the advanced fur rendering tab, but now in version 8 its no longer avaiable. So please i need some help!!! My model need to be ready for 2 days and i need to fill this holes with fur XD!
To help you, im posting here a image of my rendered model (with rough fur so it render faster for testing attributes hehehe)

did you try to detach your fur and apply one of the standard ones?
just to try if it is because of your model or the fur...

Hi dude, thanks for your answer! Unfortunatly this task do not work, i attached a new description to the mesh but i still have some holes in the geometry XD
ok, so the prob is on the model.
if you look unter the skin of your model, does the fur appear there?
if yes, it might be the problem because your vertices are too far appart.

yes, for sure. The problem is with the parameterization. My model initialy was a polygon mesh, when i put the fur to this model everything worked ok. But not at the SubdD. There isnt any fur under the model, and the vertices are ok (its a collapsed model). Im trying to find some way to fix the mesh, the problem is that i dont know exactly what it is! rs

Oh, i forgot to say that whein i painted the equalizer maps with artisan, the color feedback showed in black the areas that are not furry, so to solve the problem i "flooded" (this word exist? XD) all the mesh with white but maya seems to dont recognize that luminance map. Do i have to load something or qualify some checkbox to meke it works?
The calc. Area Values is set to "off" and the Equalizer maps is set to "Default Equalizer Maps"
Ver very thanks again!
sometimes you have to save if you want to see your painted attributes in the rendering.
i would suggest to convert your model back to polys again, maybe subdees aren't fully supported yet...

Oh my god i solved the problem! hahahaha I so happy! When i smoothed the model, i turned off the option "smooth uvs", thats why some smoothed areas of my model did not have a correspondent uvs layout, turning the space empty and no wonder black and unfurry. And dude, your tips helped me a lot for futures situations, im very grateful!
thanks!
