i'm working thru wiro's subdiv tutorial and am trying to add a narrow row of edges around my model's nose as described at the bottom of the page here (http://www.secondreality.ch/tutorials/modelling/head5.html). i've done this by connecting the series of edges and then moving the points upward along y and them moving along x and z to place them correctly. this is kind of an awkward way of doing it tho and isn't too consistent, is there a way to add a detail edge near the edge its intended for rather than having it connect between the two verticies? or any easier way of accomplishing this in general? thanks.

Clacos's slide plugin does exactly what you need. But unfortunately we wont be able to use it until wings hits version 1. :(

As a workaround , you can select and bevel those edges , than clean it up.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for here but rather than use the bevel tool and create a whole hoard of little faces along with the new face your looking for you might try extrude slightly, then rescale the face down, agin if required etc... :)

i meant bevel edge , not bevel face.

bevel edge is very good for adding local detail. If you do a edge loop it creates the same faces anyway.

cool, thanks guys.

s3d, that will help for some of what i'm doing, but in this particular case i'm talking about adding detail on just one edge of a poly so the extrude thing wouldn't quite work. that will work for other things i've been doing tho, i'll definitely give it a shot, thanks.

thanks for the clarification sheep factory, the bevel edge may be exactly what i need, i'll try it out. thanks :)
