View Full Version : Drilling the Hole

Ok, so I'm trying to do the following :

Make a hole into an Egg-Shape ( made from NURBS-Sphere ) by using Boolean subtract with a NURBS-Cylinder.
Then i extrude the Trim-Edge and use the Round-Tool to round out the corner of the hole.

This is where the pain starts.

The render-tesselation of the trimmed Egg-Shape wont properly lign up with the tesselation of the rounded-corner-surface.
Its not fixable by adjusting the Tesselation manually, because the tesselation around the hole is absolutely non-uniformly spread.

Is there any way to get it to match up properly ?

I take it from the lack of replies that this is generally considered unfixable ?

Generally... Yes.

The only thing you can do is to increase the tessellation of all surfaces to a point where the renderer does not pick up these artifacts. Otherwise, there is no way you will be able to get nicely lined up tessellated polygons when you are working with trimmed surfaces. (One of the many reasons why using trimmed surfaces is often avoided).

There are some good tips on tesselation in this tutorial:

i'm sure you have your reasons, but why not just loft the egg shaped hole?
