I am using Maya 7 on Windows 64X with 8g of RAM.
However, When I render a scene this is the message that I get.
Error: Free memory is low. Memory exception thrown

It seems to use only 2.5G of Ram when a scene renders then Maya either crashes or
gives me that error.
Is it because I am using Maya 7.0?? Does it only let u use up to 2 G of RAM?
Can plz somebody help ????

I guess the problem is 32bits Maya 7 can't use advantage of 64 bit OS.

cheers

Have you increased the maximum memory setting in the defaultRenderGlobals?

Thank you both for your reply.
I couldn't find a Maximum setting option in Render Global.
Where can I find that?
Thanx

select the defaultRenderGlobals in the wildcard select window or use this command:

select -r defaultRenderGlobals;

Go to it's attribute editor and go to the memory and performance tab. Jack up the max memory by increments of 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc. I'm sure this will solve it. Just don't rememember the maximum ammount of memory maya is actually allowed to use in local renders though.

maya 8 x64 is for win x64 that mean that only x64 ver can use as much ram as u want, so forget about maya 7 :)

Yes, Maya 7 is a 32 bit app and a single 32 bit process can only manage up to 2GB of ram.

Yup! that was the problem.
Thank you all for your help!
