Hello, I'm new in Maya's world, I'm a Softimage XSI user but I want to learn maya 4.5. I've got a simple question for you; in XSI I can move the points of an object (nurbs or polygonal) selecting its and translating its, like Maya, but:D, in XSI I can move a single point of an object pressing "m" and dragging it. Can I do something like that in Maya?

thanx in advise to all.

i am not sure i understand what you are looking for not being a xsi user myself :/
if you are just trying to find a hotkey to get into component mode it is the f8 key, this toggles the component mode... sorry if missunderstood what you are saying

I think what Belly is trying to do, me being an Soft user also, is to move a points without having to go thru the step of selecting points, hit "w", move them, then rectangle selecting more points and so forth. Whereas in XSI or Soft, you have a "hotkey" that allows you to just hover over the point and move it all at the same time.

Belly: So the answer is no. You can't. However with NURBS objects, you can use the cursor keys to select the adjacent points.

Hope this helps.

You only have to change one setting in the preferences.

Go to Window - Preferences , under Selection activate Click Drag Select, and you're almost done.

Now instead of pressing 'm' you can press F9 to go to component mode, I know its not the same as you go to component mode but keep reading :)

You can also map F9 or any other key (maybe 'm') to go to vertex component mode (or any other mode you choose) and then when releasing it, go into object .

Here you have, all like XSI 'm' you only need to customize some little things.

Hover over the points? sounds wierd, what cesco said should work, doesn't it?

I think that may I have not been too clear.

The fact is that in Default Maya UI you canīt but
if you customize some little things you CAN and
I know because I have the '-' key mapped to
behave as the 'm' from XSI, since I have worked
with XSI and I like that behavior, so I am pretty
sure that you can do what you want :) .

Jus do what I have said before. But be sure that you
CAN do it :).
