Hello all,

I'm doing the famous WRX tutorial, I'm only at one of the first steps of making the bonnet. (step8: Click for image (http://www.blissdd.com/WRX/Tutorial/pages/book_pages/Book008.html) )
Now I used curve snapping to snap each curve to eachother but when trying to use the birail 3+ tool it doesnt make a surface. If I use the Birail 2 tool it does work (with each curve). What am I doing wrong?

PS I searched the older posts for help but that din't help me too much.

PSII When the birail tool kept failing me in my subaru scene, I made a new scene where I made 5 curves just to see if this tool really worked at all, it didn't work there either, birail 2 worked with each curve again but the birail 3+ tool didnt construct the surface.

Don't forget to press ENTER after selecting the profile curves. Then you can the select the two rail curves.

Make sure that the profile curves have the same number of spans?

Edit:
ok, now we're talkin, number of spans on the profile curves is number of CV's?

I pressed enter after selecting the profile curves in a quick test I just did by making 5 curves again, and that worked.

I can't try it in my subaru scene yet because that is at my home (at parents place with internet now). But thanks for the tip because my test scene didnt work in the beginning either. I'll keep you posted.

Many thanks!

spans are not exactly the same as CVs... you have a set number of cv's per span depending on the degree curve you are useing...
if you are useing a degree 1 (linear) curve you have 2 CVs per span where if you are useing a more common degree 3 curve you have 4 CVs per span etc...
to see the number of spans look in the atribute editor for a nurbs curve and on the top it should tell you what degree curve you are useing and how many spans are in it... same thing applies to surfaces... just in the U and V direction instead of just U in a curve

hey Jann-Lee,

make sure your points are actually touching....(you probably heard that before)

they may look like they are, but in fact, may not be.

i did the WRX tutorial too, and many a time i snapped the points
to each other and also snapped the points to curves...
but when it came time to birail 3......nothing!

i then zoomed real close to the two points i supposedly snapped together and found they were not touching.

my workaround to it was to select one of those points, then move it away a little in one direction, then snap back again.

then do it again in another direction and snap back again.

and finally the last direction and again snap back again...blah blah blah...

so in essence, i was snapping 4 times....once to get close and 3 other times to get them right on...
it's kind of tedious, but it works

oh yeah, when you snap to curve, move the point up and down
the curve a little before you let go of the button, just to make sure it's on.

hope that helps

Thanks for all the tips, I managed to get the hang of the tool and the curve snapping.

Thanks!
