Hey,

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but where do I get a rendertime from a single fram render? I know the script editor reads out durring a batch render, but where do I get the rendertimes from? One would say output window...but when I rendered this scene in Mental Ray and then looked at the output window it says it took 2 seconds to render :surprised ...and is really more like 5min (I think anyway)....whats the deal? I checked the script editor and nothing to do with rendertime there :curious:

Be nice to the newbie :p

first I would activate -progress- in the translation menu of the renderglobals

:annoyed: ...I looked for a good long time for anything to do with "progress" or "Translation menu"and found nothing in the render globals for both mental ray, and the maya render globals, I echoed all commands in the script editor thinking maybe I missed something, I searched the help files, I searched the "find menu" function....it would be sooo cool if I could "turn on progress" but...I'm not seeing it...anywhere. Maybe I'm blinded from looking too hard ( you know how it goes) ...but where the hell is it??! :annoyed:

Thanks for trying
Any other help would be...helpful ;)

Hi,

go to mentalrayglobals windows under the Translation tab you should see a pull down menu
with Warning messages selected just select Progress Messages.

And if you're a Windows user you should see it on the Output window.

Bye.

Thanks for putting up with me, both of you! :applause:

Off the subject but in that scene what all did you use? I never can get scenes to look like that in MR or Maya.

The above was Mental Ray

1 Spotlight:
100,000 photons
1.25 exponent
the rest as default

Globals:
GI Accuracy 100
Photon Volume Accuracy 100
The rest as default

Final Gather
All Defaults

Here is a little tut that should help get you up and running with Mental Ray for Maya

Thanks for the info.

Oh, was one of your lights shaded the daylight color or was the walls?

Thanks again.

There was a lambert shader applied to the room that was kind of a cream color. Here is the scene file if you want to mess around with it be my guest ;)
