OK, I have a lovely NURBS block-like shape (created from extruded curves with caps) and I want to fillet the top. I use fillet edge, select all the edges of the top, and I'm left with fillet surfaces extending beyond the end of the part (ie. nothing's trimmed) How do you fillet the edges and have the results trimmed (like typical CAD software does)?

Well that depends, a common cause of this is trying to add a fillet that's too big for the object, it has to be smaller than the smallest radius of the edge. Really, the best place for these technical questions is the official Rhino newsgroup, go to Help->Support in Rhino.

most likely JimCarruthers found the source of the problem, but in nay case it would help if you would show a screenshot and mention the parameters used...

It's actually quite understandable, you can control the radius of the fillet by just typing "radius" and change the numerics to something smaller like 0.5 or whatever it is. Most fillet fails because the default fillet radius is to big. Remember you can change the value for your radius.

Just chose Filletedge , then type "radius" and change the numeric value and see if it's a value you want.

Same goes for the Chamfer function.

Also it helps alot if you're initual curves if seperated are "Join" before extruding so it's easier to "Cap" and filletedges.

I'm not to sure how this quick fix works but it has worked for me before so I'll mention it anyway - no promisses on it doing anything what-so-ever ;)

Explode your capped object > Shrink the surfaces > Join (make sure it's closed)
>> And then try your fillet again

Chances are it won't work but it won't hurt to try.
