I wondered if anyone has come up with a script for this sort of thing?

Notice that it works with Translation & Rotation

NB: image is from a Lightwave plugin

there's Attribute Goal Editor on GnomonWorkshop, it's a free script that lets you add secondary motion to a hierarchy like dynamics, but with expressions.

Thanks seb4d. But does it work with translation too?? I'm sure I remember that it didn't...

Hi Steve,

I just came across your post, this can be done by using the Ik spline tool and using goal weights. You can get some awsome results.

Here is a little avi I made (in Divx about 900kb) that illustrates the same thing you showed using goals and Ik spine tool in maya.

If you want the scene file you can pm me if you want :)

It is cool! Here is a quick 'how to' video to create that kind of effect:

http://www.lostpencil.com/temp/secondary.zip (4.20mb winzip, 800x600 MPG1 screen capture)

If you are on a mac, just email me (paul@lostpencil.com) and I'll put up the uncompressed clip and get you the link.

Hope it helps!

You are welcome! It doesn't have any sound, but I think it's pretty self explanatory. If anyone has a question on specifics feel free to drop me a note. Happy animating!

I was about to starta thread and did a search instead. Glad I did. So lost...which tools do you use the most? Lw,, messiah, or Maya

:wavey: Hey Julez! Glad it helped. As for which package I use the most... well... so far this year the break down:

Maya:60%
LW: 35%
Max: 5%
Messiah: 0%

But it changes day to day. Next week it will probably look like:

Maya: 75%
Max: 25%
LW: 0%
Messiah: 0%

I think Messiah will be 0% for awhile... no projects on the horizon using Messiah - which is a shame....

:) Thanks Goosh! Glad you liked it! I used Hypercam to capture the video (http://www.hyperionics.com - Camtasia is another similar product).
