Yea, Weta was awarded Avatar late last summer. They have been working on it for 4-5 months so far.

Is it me, or are movies just getting better and better. Seems like the last 6 years or so the quality of craftsmanship has just skyrocketed.

I am ofcourse, speaking in generalities.

not sure on that actually. Its becoming rarer for me to outright enjoy movies. Late 90s was primo! (fith element, starship troopers etc) having said that perhaps thats from a teens perspective..I think films have become unbalanced where visuals take precedence..I watched Enemy Mine (1986?) two nights back and was floored at the beautifull matte paintings in this movie, and i felt transported to another world, and the character interaction between the 2 main stars Jerry the Drak and Wil Davidge certainly had great chemistry..these days i could care less about half the characters that parade around in movies. Havn't spotted one wrth 20 million just yet. and i think quality of acting has taken a hit too.

i guess im too fond of the eighties and nineties hehe.

(i think sound design is more formulaic these days aswell :O blaspemous though thumbs up to Lotr, king kong and war of the worlds these are the exception)
