Are you seriously asking animators to pay $45 (or $35 with the rebate) in order to enter a competition for the chance of winning one of 6 prizes, the last three valued at $59.95, and the honor of having a link to their animation hosted on your website?

I think what Per Anders is trying to say is that this deal sucks. Nerds. It's so hard for them to simplify things.

No, he is asking animators to pay 45 dollars of their hard earned money so the site can get more web traffic, its win win...or something like that :scream:

I believe you were looking at our Short Story Challenge, not Animadness 2007. The awards for Animadness 2007 are listed here:
http://www.nycmidnight.com/2007/Animadness/Awards.htm
The entry fee is $75 per TEAM, $65 with the discount code. If you have 5 animators on your team, it works out to $15 per person. If the entry fee is too steep for you, we also offer animators a chance to enter for free by making a very short film, 1-15 seconds, based on a theme we provide. You can find out more here:

Animadness is a challenging and rewarding experience for those that take part, and some great films come out of it. You can check out the winning films from last year's competition here:

If you have any more questions or comments, please let me know. Thanks

Oh yes that a way better deal that the already pointed out bad deal of $45, $35 with discount. Now you've sold me as its even more costly.
So I have the pleasure of paying you so that I can enter your contest and get some basic streaming of my video or I could simply do whatever I want and host it on youtube, get more viewers and save $65.
Or I can save some cash and make a 15 second animation of a theme you decide with your logo in front, that if considered god enough might allow me to partake in the contest without paying the $65 dollars? Man Good thing CGSociety didn't charge you $5 to post ($3 with a buttrock smilie for your discount code) or we'd al have missed the opportunity. Far out weighs the free to enter contests we have here where you can win prizes worth a whole lot more than $1500 (try several thousand even for second runner ups)

i agree that to pay to enter the contest is a bit silly- i mean its not like its a prestige animation contest which uses the fee in order to weed out the amateurs from the get go-
as for the prizes as it was pointed out, there are free contests on cgsociety that offer great prizes and are free- they attract a great mass of people and are maybe something you should check out-

To put this into perspective, the submission fee for the Sundance Film Festival is $35 or $60 if you miss the deadline. Sure it doesn't mean your short will be featured, but the fact there is some minimum standard give the festival its value.
Frankly, I'd rather spend the money on a Gnomon training DVD. The chance to win a copy of ToonBoom Studio as well; is that going to appeal to a 3d artist? And for a 2d artist, they'll either be using it already or entrenched in the workflow of an alternative.
Sorry, I've seen so many of these festivals both free and with submission fees-I'm a little jaded.

But thats just thing thing this is very different from Sundance.
1) its not a major screening film festival, its not for film but internet video.
2) Its not a Festival Prestige award. When I have something screen at sundance or the Vancouver international film festival or the likes, I get an offical emblem that people recognize and acknowledge. It is a big thing to have a film shown there.
3)Its viewed by the best of the best in those festivals, having been in the industry many many years I've never heard of this site before.
When I did my film I did the festival route, it cost me a small fortune, but it got exposure for me and my film, landed me work etc, but because of the cost I only entered my film into the major festivals. I had people who saw my film at festivals ask me to enter it into their small local festivals and such, at a cost of course. I mean what ind of exposure am I going to get from a small cities local film festival on another country? if I could put it in for free sure I'd love to share my film with anyone who wants to see it, but thats what things like youtube provide us with a means of doing. Only two reasons to make a film, for an audience (even if thats yourself) or to get mroe exposure possibly land a job. If I'm making a film just to be seen be an audience I"ll host it somewhere it can be seen for free. no reason the audience ormyself should have to pay to share a magical moment.
First off guys let's me nice instead of show how elitist and jerky this sight can be. Yes he posted his contest, and yes parts of it are like ....wah? What are you thinking? "
But let's be polite but at the same time not humor them.
I mean the prizes are small in comparison but how much bandwidth is going to this sight. In other words how many views and how much exposure do they have?
midnight24 I apologize for some of the rude comments on this sight but at the same time the fee is a little off in comparison to the prizes. I mean it sounds like fun but I guess with the work at hand their is more incentive needed. Cause even if you won 500 dollars and your team spent 3 weeks on it, and you have a team of 5 you'd have to split the money.
Can you guarantee thousands of viewers? How many viewers can be guaranteed? Please up the stakes on this contest. I mean it may work for you, which is good so don't change.
but I do have to apologize for some elitism here but at the same time t hink of what you are offering.
