hello everyone.
I'm am using cinema 4d to do a project and i have evrything modeled execpt one character. It is a 6 year-old girl. I have looked and looked for a tutorial on this, but my searches have turned up nothing. My deadline is coming up too so I'm desperate. Any help will be apprecated. Thank you in advance!!

This is the only human tutorial I know of, and it's for modeling Joan of Arc. She has a more developed body than a 6 year old, but with some changes to the final model I think this could work.

Good luck with your project, and I hope you post it here on CGS!

edit: The tut is for 3Dsmax, and I don't know how Cinema4D works, but I used the tutorial working in Blender and it worked pretty well...

Heh, good luck finding some nude reference for a 6 year old girl in these paedophilia obsessed modern times.

Here's the closest I have from my sculpture references. This is a boy of about 4 or 5 I'd guess.
Just remove the winky, and you'll be fine ;)

thank you, actually I've tried to model her from a developed female tutorial. . . let's just say it turned out as a train wreck. Any suggestions for keeping a real- life apperance while changing the size to match a six-year old?

thanks, again any suggestions for how to use them while skipping parts (or editing sizes)? Last time I tried this with a full grown model it turned out horrible. The face deformed half-way through building the nose :( oh and I will post it on here, it's going to be an animation though. ;)

thankyou. It's quite helpful, but again it's for a more advanced teenage girl. Any suggestions for making it look close to a six-year old? ANY sugestions are appreciated because right now I'm desperate. Thanks

Friend Enesis,

Pleasure is mine too. In my humble opinion, the modeling way that Arild Anfinnsen has shown, is quite logical in terms of muscle flow and technically sound in terms of facial animation. But, you may take to liberty to supply lesser number of edges to keep the mesh lighter and easier for UV mapping.

So far I may advise you, is, to have some closer look to some images or any real life instances to a baby of such age. What Mr. Oddity has added, I think they are worth observing too.

With my humble idea, first make the headform (without lip, mouth, ears, hair etc.) with basic geometry... in a bonny and chubby shape as a baby of that age might be, and curve out the nose over it (because baby nose are a little special, rather "baby" in form). (Headform with nose gives the direction to a sculptor I feel.) After that, I think image of your desired character should start developing consequently, over which you may trace-sculpt your 3D model.

What little collection I have, I may gladly share some instances. I got them all from the site www.fineart.sk ... and complied some of them (zipped) in which I think might be helpful in your case.

Will be very pleased if the mentioned ideas and the materials attached comes to your use.

Wish you success.

Best regards

thanks for the advice, it'sworking pretty good so far. I'm using the joan of arch tutorial to help but, whenever I try to make the torso with ouyt the curves it doesn't come out looking right, it's a bit hard to explain. . .and my pc won't let me upload right now :( Any suggestions on getting past this part? I had a feeling I was going to get stuck here. :'( thanks in advance

I used the J.O.A tutorial a while ago (although I strait from the tut while working on the chest, and did it by myself). I thought I would try and get rid of the curves to make her look more like a child.

Before:

After:

I didn't make the legs short enough, but I think the torso would pass.

oh god i feel your pain I looked for days for photo references of little girls
I finally got a friends little cousin to pose for me, it wasnt much help though since she was clothed, I even felt uncomfortable asking for pictures like that being female, I cant imagine being male and trying it
I ended up finding a black and white drawing of a nude young girl that worked well, i took my female model scaled it down and made it look like a child

http://sandpailkids.com/Katemack.htm there are a few pictures on this site you cant save them but maybe you could take a print screen or something

this is cute

your telling me. I have some pictures. . . (clothed ofcourse) but I doupt they'll help me too much, and the only reason I only took them was because the kids I was babysitting got a hold of my camera and begged me to take their pictures. . . lol anyways. . .um. . .Do by chance haave any tips for removing curves, like Mitchelhunt did? If you do I'd appreciate the advice

mitchelhunt, which points did you move to obtain that affect? what you did would work, with shorter legs ofcourse) lol. Thanks for the advice, both of you.

honestly all i did was "buff" out the curves with the 3d sculpt tool, fattened up her belly and (if you're working with half a model it sometimes moves the verticies off the 0,0 so you have to snap them back to the grid before mirroring, if you're working with a full model, just check the mirror x or what ever axis you're using and it'll update both sides)

little girls are essentially the same as women, just less of a waist, bigger head, and a bigger torso in comparison to legs, if i were you, I'd do some drawing studies first to help you get a feel for their anatomy that probably will help you and give you more of an idea in your head to work with, I personally find it hard to model things i've never drawn.

Oh I happened to save some of my old shots for some reason, maybe they'll be helpful

the model isnt that great, I actually ended up scraping it and starting over but heres a shot of the wires

and an early zbrush shot of her

I pretty much just removed all of the triangles, and made them regular four-verticed faces. I took the result, and just moved them around until I got the less mature body figure of a child. Like I said in my original post, I didn't follow the JoA tutorial much on the chest area and did it myself because my internet was down for a while.

thanks that should help. . . I hope. I'm already studing anatomy and I know the general shapes of the body both male and female, which is probally why I didn't run into snags before now. . . thanks again
