Howdy,

Well, I'm getting off to a late start.

I didn't list the version of Cinema 4D because I'll be using my CD Character plugins for the rigging.

I've separated the armor and colored the pieces as to what they'll be made of:
silver, gold, black = metal
brown = leather
red = cloth

I don't know if I'll be able to make it to the finish line, but it should be fun non the less. ;)

Howdy Dan,

It's been quiet on the C4D front I'm glad your participating.

Good luck. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Howdy,

Well, after the initial rigging and skinning, I've decided that some of the armor that I designated as metal will have to be changed to leather, simply because it won't work as metal. So this is the new armor:

The spine is a 3 joint spine rigged with the CD Spinal plugin expression. It's setup to work as IK or FK depending on which controllers are used.

Here are a couple of images of the deformation around the waiste:

Howdy,

OK, I've added a joint to the skeleton for an experimental Clavicle-Scapula setup:

The Clavicle joint is setup with squash and stretch to help the deformation:

The Scapula joint is set up normal:

Howdy,

Added a little joint controlled morph to the stomach:

love the attention to detail!

Great job as usual, Dan.

Those little morphs really make or break a realistic deformation. I never realized how much they help. I'll spend hours weighting and reweighting when I could have just done a morph and be done with it.

Hopefully your making a tutorial as you go along... ;-)

Howdy,

Just a little experiment with the boobs.

Probably won't be able to use it with the armor.

Is that Soft IK or Constraints and Skin Clusters?

Certainly make the project a little more, uh...interesting...

Very nice deformations (no jokes intended) in the torso area Dan. Great work.

Dan,

Your spin rig looks great so far, but I have a quick question? Could you explain the CD spine Epxression a bit more. I really like the deformations you are getting and wondering if you would be willing to share your process? Thanks in advance.

The CD Spinal is part of my CD IK Tools plugin. It is a special expression tag designed for spinal rigging that has a base and a tip controller each with a depth parameter. As with all of the IK tags in the plugin, it has built in IK/FK blending and squash & stretch.

Here are some example vids of how the CD Spinal tag works:
http://www.cactus3d.com/CDSpinal.mov
http://www.cactus3d.com/NewSpinal.mov
http://www.cactus3d.com/SpineTwist.mov

I set up the controllers for the torso with a Main Body, Hip, Mid Body and Chest controllers. The Hip and Chest controllers are the ones that are linked to the CD Spinal tag (base and tip). Then the Chest controller is parented to the Mid Body controller, while the Mid Body and Hip controllers are parented to the Main Body controller

So, the hiearchy looks like this:
+Main Body controller
+-Hip controller
+-Mid Body controller
+--Chest controller

The Hip and Chest controllers are the IK controllers, and the Main Body and the Mid Body sort of become the FK controllers.

Nice work, Dan.

That's a pretty nifty shoulder movement at the end.

Looks like you had a pretty good model to start with, too.

Is she single? '-0

Very nice work Cactus Dan! I'm not a Cinema 4D kind of guy myself, but I am thoroughly impressed with your rig. I see that you actually wrote your own character rigging plugins and that is what you are using on the challenge. It's a great way to gain some recognition and for us to gain some awareness as to what's out there.

Just some suggestions:
I think that the breast clusters can just be reduced to the tops of the breasts in order to work with the armor piece. If you make the chest armor made of a leather, then it will give just a little bit so you might have a different value on the lower breast movement than the upper breast. I'd also put in controllers for the animators to turn off the jiggle if you can and also it would be nice if they can change the firmness of the breasts as well so that they can have a little more control over their performance. I was able to do that in Maya but I have no idea how to approach it in Cinema 4D but if anyone can do it, you can! I'm sorry to focus on them so much, but I'd say if there were any things I'd modify in the rig, that's it. Everything else is really great. You are getting great deformations, great control over the rig, and the number of controls are also kept down. I'm really impressed with your plugins and will be recommending them to future Cinema 4D users. Good job!:)

Howdy,

Thanks for the comments, N8Girard.

Actually, limiting the breasts to the top part of the armor was what I intended to do, but then I got a little too carried away with them.

I like your idea of giving the user control over the firmness and such. It should be fairly easy to set up those kind of controls.
