i just finished texturing it. it's supposed to look cartoony. i didn't do any proper lighting for it. plus i suck at lighting.
what say you?

The chest is too big :p
But the claw is just right. Keep it up. :wip:

I really love the claw but it seems so much better done than the rest, which doesn't quite work for me. :)

looks nice, but maybe turn the specularity up on the eyes, they look too dull. Also you could make the textures more detailed like on the big claw, this would add greatly.

more details to the small claw or everywhere else in general?
the small claw was bugging me a bit. it was supposed to have less detail (i was just following how this actual crab looked like) but it does look lacking. here's it in one of my scenes (again, not proper lighting...)
thanks!

:wip: its good but the chest is too big:wip:

yeah the claw is really good but you have to bring the rest of the crab. maybe some more variations in the colors of the body and the bump map on the body too. hehheehheh

I think the second picture looks much better than the first but the problem more than anything seems to me to be the colouring on the body and legs. With the large claw, the texturing perfectly compliments the form, whereas on the body and legs it practically destroys it, and the stridency of the colour combination only seems to make that worse. Are those really the colour combinations of the real crab???? :)

I agree with xynaria, but I would even say that the legs are fine and most the work needs to be done on the body. I can't say that I have seen a lot of crab pictures lately, but the texture of the body is really kind of an eyesore. But if there are real crabs that look like that then who am I to argue with nature. Anyway, regardless of texture, I think that some more can be done to the body. You could maybe divide it into a top and bottom shell, or add some fleshier parts around the eyestalks or the legs, or some creases or bumps or horns. A crab is a great idea for a character though, and it looks like you are on the right track. Keep us updated!:D

It looks really cute and huggable, but I agree with xynaria and whoever said that the body is a bit too big... well, its too thick. fiddler crabs are a wee bit thinner if I can remember correctly, also, could you show us the newer claw that you added details to? that last render doesn't really show much but the awesome claw.

Keep up the good work!

actually there is a crab that does look like that. i odn't have a picture on me at the moment but i'll try to get one up of it soon to compare.
i don't totally wanna change the geometry of the body since i already have all the animation done and i'm in a hurry to get this demo finished within a month to a month of a half (still lots of lighting and texturing to be done...).
as for the designs of the colours and whatever, yeah i just followed the real crab. i did think that it had way too many colours to it, but i dunno, i'm not too good with colours and design.
i'm not too sure what i could change about the shell though to match the rest.... a more spottier blended kind of texture like the big claw? i like the blue and black too though...
ahhh!!
i'll get up the updated small claw soon.
thanks a bunch!

here's a link to the crab i'm kinda basing this on. it's a tetragonon!

Looking at that I would say try and get your texture on the body more all over as it is on the real thing so the body read as one area and maybe try and get some specularity on the legs. :)
