View Full Version : zoom with motion blur
Hi guys,
I feel like I'm posting a stupid question but I couldn't find any answers in the docs or elsewhere. How do I motion blur a zoom? It neither works with MentalRay nor MayaSoftware...

You are using the cams focal length to zoom, right? Couldn't you do the zoom by moving the camera instead? That would definitely be motion-blurred.
Christopher
unfortunately I want the zoom-look ;-)
you could also creating cool effects with the blur on the zoom if you exaggerate it...

Of course i'm not 100% sure on this...but without actually translating the camera, your only solution is to blur the zoom in a compositing-app. Shouldn't be a big problem and might look just as good :)

the multipass rendering in the hardware renderbuffer managed to render "zoom blur". That by keying the camera scale.

I don't use zoom lenses so I never tried it. But you may have to use deformation motion blur. Not sure whether that would work, but you could give it a try. Expect increased render times.
thanks for you answeres!
I solved it now with rendering a different layer with Maya's Software 2d motion vectors and blurred the images in comp.
Chris-TC: deformation motion blur doesn't work
hakanpersson: how would you comp that?
