hi,

i have modeled a character in one piece(polig/subds)...and now i have to texture it. My problem is: i dont want to use one big high res texture for entire character but i would like to have one big high texture for head, one for torso, arms etc (i created clusters to simplify the uv mapping). Is this possible? becouse after few try (with xsi and or deeep uv) i see that uv its always one for entire body and not 1 for each piece (cluster) of geomerty.
I forgot something or something wrong ? pls tell me a suggestion for better way!

Many thanx

Marco

You should be able to divide your model into as many separate bitmaps as you like. I don't use XSI, but I would be amazed if the software didn't come with any tutorials on the subject of how to lay out multiple UV sets.

Here's one for 3ds Max, maybe it might help you.

thanx u posm for your reply.
infact i never seen around any tut (neither on official docs) about layering multiple uv. :surprised

im trying to simplify the things with deep uv but all i can get when reimporting the object in xsi is 1 uv layout for the object and not differents layouts for each material i defined on the model (head, torso , arms etc).

anyway i fun useful your uv tut link

actually you don't need to setup cluster (since more cluster you said, the more trouble you are building)

You just need to assign another texture projection to it. In your render try, while you plug different textures as differen layers, keep in mind that you must check "mutiplyweight by alpha".

i usually use mix for blend mode, but sometimes if i want to get more effects with different maps, mix mode will have some problem. Ah... i don't know how to solve it in that case really, different blend mode fit different situation.

However, if you are just trying to use different map on different parts of your 1 mesh. yea, get rid of all the cluster (unless you want him to have differen material) and just assign differen projection.
