Hi there, I am currently playing around with XSI and modeled something what could be a pig face (hey don't laugh, never did 3D before).

Now I have a problem: How can I copy/mirror the ear on the other side? is there a way?

something that looks like a pigdogface (http://exe.metatrix.net/xsi/ear.jpg)

Create a copy of your object (Ctrl + D), see it in your explorer window, now scale it in X axis (I think) with -1 value. Now, select all the polygon of the pig and de-select the ear's polygons, delete its. Select the other pig object (the original obj I mean) and delete the polygon where you want to connect your new ear. Merge your objects. Enjoy and good luck! :wip:

But this is a simple step in modeling art, when you'll more expert this step seems you very simple. If you don't understand something, sorry my bad english.

Hi, thanks =) really simple indeed. However, I realized, that when i cut the hole in the head and then snap and merge the ear in that hole, that the "hole-outline-edges" are doubled and have to be deletet afterwards. Otherwise you have different results on both sides when you make it subd. Is there a way to avoid this from the start?

Edit: Oups, got it .. its merging and not blending.:bounce:

Usually in character modelling you can model an half character and clone it and scale it in -1. In this mode, you change only a side of your character and in real-time change the clone.

When you have finish to modeling you can delete the clone, duplicate the half-character and scale it in -1 (like the clone) and in the end merge the 2 sides in one.

Hello again! :wavey:
Thanks for helping me out!! :)

Okay here are my next two problems.

First, while panning and dollying and rotating alot in persp view, sometimes the camera gets really really slow and i have to pull the mouse several times across the table to move some centimeters. Why is that?

Next problem: Is there a way to get rid of the camera target? sometimes i would like to have a camera rotating about its own axis instead of a target.

Thank you :bounce:

When you create a cam, see that null called root ? branch/tree select that and rotate/translate, and the cam will behave like a free camera. Mainly it will rotate using that null as the center of rotation, so you can move that to anywhere (in node select mode) to change the center of rotation/translation. And if you wan't a purely free cam, just delete the target null.

Works the same way with spotlights also.
