I remember reading once about joint orientation in FBIK.. that all the joints should be oriented to world space... is this true? is it necessary?

I haven't seen any mention of joint orientations when setting up FBIK skeletons..
should we orient joints:
a) according to traditional IK/FK way.. or
b) to world space
c) don't bother.

any help is appreciated!
