Title: Okasan
Name: Tamara Donahoe
Country: USA
Software: Painter, Photoshop

This piece was created as a gift for my mother for the holidays this year. I spent about 60 hours learning as I went as part of my transition to complete 2D without the use of 3D assistance and was done in Photoshop CS and Painter IX.5.

Reference material included photos of my mother's sofa fabric for the kimono so it would match...beacuse my mother ALWAYS matches. Also , the face reference came from a photo my father shot many years ago, which has become a family favorite.

This was output to 24x36 size and custom-framed as the final output.

Nice Geisha, I like her clothes. But i see something extrange in her mouth, I think the lips and the teeth are not aligned properly. In her left part of the face the hair grows a little too back, I think it should start more from before the hear. Nice image anyway.

Hi there...

Thanks for the reply! Yep, the lips were particularly difficult. I kept wanting to change them, but as I was referencing from a photo of my mother, each change I made made it suddenly not look like her. It's funny in a portrait that the very very slightest change in tone or line can make a person look completely different.

We got it done on just plain poster paper, but before we have it done on canvas or watercolor I think I will have a look at touching up the hair as you suggested.

Thanks again...
