...at the International Press awards ( http://www.pressacademy.com/ ).
Pan's got the prize for "Motion Picture, Animation or Mixed Media" for a feature
film. Cars, Ice Age, Flushed Away and Happy Feet were the other movies to beat in this category.

Congrats!

Yeah congrats to all you guys up there at Cafe! Can't wait to see Pan's this weekend.

I just got to tour Cafe yesterday. My friend took me around, as I spent Christmas with him and his family. Seems like there is a lot of good people up there. Goodluck on your upcoming projects!

I saw it the other weekend, and thought it was fantastic! A very different film from anything I've seen for quite a while.

Congrats to Cafe FX for some rock solid effects

I loved the design of Pan as well - quite creepy without being overly done.

hey, could you tell me how much of the faun is cg? im guessing he had a cg double for shots that involved his legs? ( or atleast his legs were cg and were composited in with the upper body? ) im also guessing the eyes were cg, but the rest of the head/upper body was live action? reason im guessing that some parts were live action like the upper body was because there was sooo much quirks in him, and his mouth movement is sooo freakin excellent that i dont believe it would be cg.

( EDIT) sorry for editing your msg kris i thought i pressed quote, to type in this post, i left it back to the way it was but the edit mark is left over, sorry :( )

Pan was live action, except for his eye blinks, which were done in post. His legs were made possible through a clever leg setup, where his legs actually went straight through the rig, with the faun legs built around them. It's a bit difficult to explain, but it was a practical setup. His legs were painted green and the visible parts of them were removed in post.

Yeah, Leigh said it all... Movie magic! :)

Digital creatures: faeries, frog (digital double of a practical one... can't tell which is which), the stickbug, the mandrake baby, the CG baby. Both Pan and Pale Man were played by Doug Jones, both are mainly make up FX with some additional CG legs for Pale man sequence and post for Pan's legs and blinks.

do you guys have an equivalent of http://www.tribute.ca/ ?

this is how i learn about where a movie is playing, and when. unfortuntely, pans labyrinth is only playing in one theatre in the whole greater toronto area, for anyone that cares.

( edit, merged thread cuz there was two of em for the movie.)

Woohoo! It's playing in Singapore Jan 11th. This should take the edge off of The Fountain not being screened here.

I had to drive 40 miles to see this as not a single cinema near me was screening it - and it was well worth the trip.

A truly beautiful film.

My wife and I were both disappointed by the film. I commented about it at filmspotting: http://cinecastshow.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=15970#15970 (SPOILER ALERT!)

congratulations to all who worked on this incredibly stunning/gory/interesting/fantastic film.
it reimbursed me for all the dissapointments i have had with movies lately. it was everything i hoped for and more. stunning camerawork, well done effects, the story, the acting, the characters.
it was my personal movie of the year.
i am hoping that "art of pan's labyrinth" book comes out so i can buy it along with the dvd of the movie.
and i think i will go see it again in theaters. yes i am that excited.
well done cafe fx people!
and thanks for an inspirational movie
:)
warning: spoilers;
edit:the post above me:
i have read your review and i did have the same thought at first: why eat the grapes? why not kill the captain?
but it made sense to me as the movie is about reciprication (sp?) of actions of the characters and choices they make. the girl was starving (she didn't have dinner because of the dress) and so far she has been on her best behaviour. her eating of the grape is parallel to what is happening with the rebels in the forest and mercedes. it's human to have weakness. it's human to make mistakes. i think it was very human of the girl that hasn't eaten in a while, during war, alone, in a magical world after completing the task to eat a grape or two.
it showed that she wasn't JUST listening to faun, (which has it's own outcome later on, when she refuses to hand over the baby). if she did listen to faun constantly: why would she all of the sudden not listen to him in the third task? she had a certain distrust and a mind of her own.
i understand that my statements will not change your mind about the movie, to each it's own but it is something to consider.

I'd agree with your take on those elements of the film that were just plain lame.
An interesting film for sure though I found the graphic brutality a bit too much.
Certainly not a film for young children to see.

Who said it's for young children? It's rated R for a reason.

I got an "exclusive screening" pass for next week, so maybe they're planning on doing some more releases of the film to other metroplexes....

ps.: sorry for the few people that thought this movie was "lame" in some way. If this is is your opinion, maybe you should watch it again paying more attention to the whole thing next time :) JK

In the very same scene she already ignores the fairy's advice and she proves to be right... I saw it that the girl didn't get to eat on account of her previous task & since she had also been told not to trust the Faun she decided to ignore his advice. Not forgetting the other factor - when do children (especially this one!) do as their told..?

As for the scene with the Captain, I took it that the woman had no intention to be doing what she was, seeing as she was caught unaware her actions were impromptu & desperate... And ultimately she's not a murderer.

Also - congratulations Antropus & all involved.

I'm sorry but I just don't see how a rebellious child who doesn't do exactly what she is told is "breaking character". Anyhow I absolutely loved this film. It was a great story and a lot different to what I am used to seeing in the theatre. I didn't realize it was such a limited release though, I only had to drive 10 minutes to go see it. Well done guys!

Oh man, the more I hear about this film the more I want to see it! Sadly, it doesn't come out in DC until Jan 12th. >_<
