View Full Version : Lighting normal mapped objects

When I render a normal mapped object in Maya, I lose all my ambient lighting infomation. (I'm just using Maya Software renderer) The detail from the normal map displays fine, but I lose any form shadows the unmapped geometry had. (See the attached image.)

I've tried creating lights. The object seems to receive the light, but it effects it in strange ways that don't make sense to me.

I also recall one of my tutorials mentioning an intricate normal mapping shader network. They never explained the network, but the ambient light rendered fine.

So I don't know if my shader network needs help, I'm missing a render setting, or what.

Can anyone help me...shed light on this problem? (yea, pun intended...sorry)

Thanks
