View Full Version : need urgent help with MOBO choice!

I am about to buy a core 2 duo E6300 1.86 and core 2 duo E6600 2.4 MHZ. with 2 GB of RAM each
The processor i need advice for is ASUS P5B-VM, intel g965 chipset or ASUS P5WDG2 WS, intel 975X express chipset.
The price diff between these two is equivalent to 2 gigs of RAM.So just wondering if extra 2 GB of RAM would be faster with G965 chipset or 2 GB with 975X express chipset will give better performance?
Is there a phenomenal diff between these two mobos??

Overclocking = 965 board
Not overclocking = your choice

First of all, G965 is chipset with integrated graphics, you don't really need that. Your choice should be between P965 and 975X chipsets. Also, are those two only motherboards you can choose from?
For E6600 I would suggest Asus P5W DH Deluxe, or Intel Bad Axe 2 (both boards are great, 975X chipsets). For E6400 I'd suggest Asus P5B deluxe, or Gigabyte P965 DS3 (also very good boards, although I favor Asus a bit more..P965 chipsets both).
Asus P5WDG2 WS is also nice 975X board, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it too you, P5W DH is cheaper and just as good performance wise. Regarding 4GB of ram, I hope you're aware that you need 64-bit OS to take advantage of that ammount of ram.
I'd say take 2x1GB DDR2 ram now, and upgrade to 4GB later if needed. I'd recommend Super Talent PC-6400 CL4.

Thanks slatr and gorosh...
I have bought E 6300 1.86 and E 6400 2.13 both with 2 GB DDr 2 533/667 RAM respectively..... Nvidia 6800 and 7200 Graphic carrds respectively...mobo's are still P5WDG2 WS 975X chipset..as i didnt have these options u mentioned....
I'll b using these machines for using 3ds max(all sorts of work) and sometime compositing work on combustion and after effects....it's 70:30.....
1. I still didnt get whats bad with G965 chipset as compared to what u have mentioned as p5w dh deluxe is costing me as good as what i have right now!!
2. so as of now 4 GB is a waste for me...untill i get windows vista....is it??
Thanks so much for ur time....I'm really new to hardware things and just want to be safe with the hard earned money...
