Title: female anatomical study
Name: Tony Reynolds
Country: USA
Software: Maya, ZBrush

This ia an anatomical study I created using Mark Smith's book, The Nude Figure - A Visual Reference for the Artists, as reference. I did about 90 percent of the modeling in Maya and finalized details in ZBrush. It took me about a day and a half to get the model to this point. I used an Ambient Occlusion render layer to make the final image.

Perfection in modeling five stars from me :), I supose you didn't rig she and modeled she almost in this position.

Could you explain a little your process or how your work flow?

Thanks for your time.

Superb work with modeling, looks very realistic,
would love to see more screens/renders of this model!

Of course, texturing would be a step further, but I actually like it better like this
- plain model, because this way you can really see shape of the body very clearly...

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with both ankles?

Hello darkcel

Great modeling and I like the fact you didn't overdue it in Zbrush. Keep up the good work.

Just wondering what specific problem you saw with the ankles? I appreciate any criticisms you might have.

As far as an image in itself, I am happy with it because I wanted the model to stand on its own without using textures to hide my mistakes. As a traditional sculptor I did not want to get caught up in the Zbrush trap of falling in love with surface detail and forgetting about the form.

I modeled the character in a neutral pose, quickly and simply bound it to a joint hierarchy and then posed it. I then began correcting the grossly bad deformations in Maya and tweaked it in Zbrush.

My main goal was capturing the essence of the pose, and I believe I have acheived it.

Perfect! It's hard to wrap my brain around that not being a real person.

Very nice and fast work! I like the way you showed body tension. Legs and torso are excellent. There is something strange in the shoulder position, but can't tell exactly what :)
Bravo!

extremely well executed model. The simplicity of material and light works very well.
I have a few critiques though.
I feel the first section of her fingers are too long, and slightly too thin.
The depressions on the top of her ankles seems a bit too deep.
I feel also that her body seems to be a contrast of 2 types. The legs are that of a young woman yet her upper body seems to have the look of an older woman.
These are just my personal opinions, others will see it differently:)
That aside it`s a fantastic study in human form, and too achieve it so quickly.
4*

Thanks for the crit. I am not sure I agree with the finger comment, but I do agree that the depressions above the ankles need to be made more subtle I will revisit it and take your comment about the body types into consideration as well - although I am not so sure about that either. Anybody else feel the same way?

Again, thanks for the crit.

very nice modeling! the joints of the fingers in the hand seems little too big though.

I looked a while at the hands to try to figure out what was bothering me and I think I found out; her middle finger is too small. It should be longer and thicker than the ring finger while it actually seems to be shorter and thinner. The finger's joints are a bit big but its common. I didn't see any age difference beetween upper and lower body. She has the body of a young and fit woman. I love her feet, they are similar (without the bone deformations often present) to ballerina's feet, very lean and supple. This is really a wonderful model in a difficult pose and I have rarelly seen anything this good! Done in a day and a half, really?
Congratulations! Zboubi

I didn't spend much time on the hands and feet, so I will tweak them out the next chance I get. I do think the knuckles are too big. I also agree with a previous post that the shoulder position may be a bit awkward, so I will tweak that as well.

Thanks for recognizing the difficulty of the pose - when I first contemplated doing it I was afraid I might not be able to make it work - but I decided that is why I had to attempt to do it.

By the way, my day and a half was 30 hours worth of work - I tried to sleep as little as possible. I was working on a male model at the same time which you can see in my gallery - I think the female worked much better.

Love it Tony,

Can we see the wires? Is it all weighted up or did you move it into the pose and then sculpt?

Very nice work!
