Downloaded and installed XSI6 Advanced. The automatic license activation then failed and now my earlier versions of XSI don't run anymore either. This is par for the course since buying XSI the license issues have been a nightmare with hours and hours of wasted time and days of down time. I'm kind of at a loss of what to do as I can't spend my days with tech support and reading forums just to keep the software working. I'm thinking of selling my license just because I can't deal with it anymore. Anyone interested?

I know this isn't going to help much, but despite contrary expectations my XSI-6 went painlessly.
I thought I was going to have a nightmare considering it was going to be installed on a new computer with no previous installation of XSI, but it just recognised my dongle and installed without fuss.

Could there be something from your old SPM server which is throwing off your new installation.

I had problems too and emails weren't helping... Called up the 1800 support number and they figured out the problem in a couple of minutes.. In my case, I had returned a damaged dongle, and even though I received a new license (v5.11), when I went thru the License Manager, I guess it tried issuing it to my old dongle. They emailed me my new correct v6 license in a couple of minutes.

They're open 9am-6pm EST, but hurry up - they're closed on Monday.

No probs here either. And I never had a single prob with the license daemon.

Not a single problem with the v.6 install here, could not have been easier.

The problem was that I was using an old iButton dongle which the new system didn't much like. Tech support kindly helped me switch over to using the USB dongle and hopefully now my activation troubles will be a thing of the past. Thanks to everyone who responded and thanks to Softimage for the speedy and courteous great support.

Ess 5.1 with USB dongle here. 3rd time for trouble shooting license/ dongle drivers.
Not really sure what is causing it, the dongle works...eventually.

...although tech support is fast, what can they do except give the same advice on trouble shooting?...no slight on the tech guys, but it is kind of annoying, especially since just starting into XSI. :hmm:

The thing is tech support will know the trouble shooting procedure best. They deal with it every day. No point wasting one's time researching a problem that shouldn't be the user's problem in the first place.

Re this issue...if anyone else has it-

After a few more tech emails, we finally found what I am 99% sure is the cause.
XSI's dongle tracks the computer clock, so if you use it on a laptop and it goes into hibernation, or you put your workstation into standby mode (which I am kind hooked on lately when in the middle of something complex...I don't need to leave things running, but can come right back where I left off, with a myriad files open at the flick of a switch) it looses the track of the time and decides to stop working. Then you need to reinstall the dongle driver.

There's a hack to make your USB stay awake while still allowing standby mode, but it seems kinda stoopid to have to do a hack for sw like XSI to work with your workflow. :hmm:
