View Full Version : Pose to pose or striaght ahead
mhayes 12-25-2006, 11:28 PM Hello, I am just trying to get some opinions on which works best striaght ahead or pose to pose? Also when starting an animation is it best to leave the tangents at the default(in Maya) or use stepped? I tried the Kieth Lango tutorial on pose to pose but when I changed the curves to linear it looked awful Is it maybe because I need to have more poses or keyframes?
Thanks

I don't think one is better than the other, just how it's used.
What I do is get a few poses then straight ahead between poses for my breakdowns. That's where the polish goes in. I try to stay in stepped as long as I can until the movement feels like it has the timing and the arcs I want, then switch to linear.
As for what you're experiencing when you're switching to linear, sounds like you do need more keyframes to define the motion. Along with Keith's pose to pose tutorial look for the overlap (http://www.keithlango.com/tutorials/overlap/overlap.html) and favor (http://www.keithlango.com/wordpress/?page_id=281). He mentions early in the overlap that the pose to pose tutorial still had problems that he wanted to deal with.
Hope that helps.
