View Full Version : Fallen Angel
markmonstroski 12-24-2006, 07:38 AM This is my first serious try at a color painting in Photoshop. I've been working and staring at it for so long that it has most probably skewed my perspective. For all I know it looks like utter garbage. I was wondering if anything looks odd or out of proportion etc. I would love to hear some comments and critiques from other people in order to set me straight. Thank you so much in advance!

What a great drawing! If you think it's garbage, you're seriously wrong!
I don't think anything looks out of proportion. If you were to be realistic, he would probably be embracing his legs to better support their weigth. But it's fine the way it is.
My suggestion for you is to brighten the black, so you can add a new level of shadow. This will get you further depth in the armor and wings.
Do the same with the white, lower it so you can add highlights to the armor and hair that will stand out in the image (if the bright areas are too bright, the highlights will only make it look more busy).
Finally, invest on that purple to break the blue. With some noise and a sharpen filter, it looks fantastic in my opinion.
Here's a paintover to showcase that, I hope you don't mind.

Looking forward to see the final one!
