View Full Version : WIP: Lazy Summer Day
arisuonpaa 12-23-2006, 10:16 AM Hi, this one is based on a sketch that I did last summer. I started an oil painting based on that, but wasn't satisfied and ended up doing another painting over it. Now I decided to start from the same idea, only this time in digital tools.
This is the point after less than two hours of work on top of the scanned sketch. I'd like to hear your opinion how to make this better, before starting the detailing. I was planning to add butterflies and flowers to make this even more kind of children's book illustration. My intention was to have a warm light -- cool shadow contrast here. Is it working? How could I have even more of that contrast? Or is it enough already?
Anyway, all your comments (or even paintovers) are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ari

If this is supposed to be for a children’s illustration then you may want to re-think the phallic appendage looking part.
It is early, and I have not had my coffee yet but at first glance that's what I saw. hehe

*wipes forehead* Well I know it's not intentional. I believe it is supposed to be his other foot resting on his foreward leg but still at first glance...hehe.

Hehee, didn't notice that myself :). Now I definitely have to change that :D.

Ok, fixed that leg and did some minor tweaks:
btw. does that shadow part of the fox look dirty? Maybe I have the shadow color wrong? It's just that if I take a darker and cooler color of red, I get that muddy color.. Oh and I have to redo that cast shadow from the leg. Now it looks like smoke or something.

Tweked here and there, added more light coming from the top left, and changed the colors of the fox shadow into more deep red:

Decided to fix all the values first and desaturated all the colors. At this point I'm pretty satisfied with the grayscale version. Now I'm gonna start the coloring..

Nice colors. The environment has more depth and cohesive-ness in this version than the other ones. ^^!
The red on the fox might be a tad oversaturated in spots, though..
