View Full Version : Anime
carney 12-23-2006, 12:16 AM Hey,
Im curious... Ive been into 3d for many years and have quite a fair bit of expirence and i also do alot of photoshop! But...
What Programs, ...Do they use to make 2d anime! like "naruto" for an Example?
i assume alot these days they use 3d then just shade it with anime shaders! but what is the latest or best program to use that the original anime artist uses?
Any programs links and information would be more appreciated thanks ;)

I've been wanting to find more details about their production processes myself, but can't seem to find any in regards to 2D, let alone anime.
From my understanding all animations go through a computer at some point in time, and most productions now a days have atleast some CG mixed into them. Mostly used for backgrounds or mechanical objects, however. Characters are still usually hand drawn.
I've recently finished watching a series called "Gantz", and it had a good bit of CG in it (as all Gonzo productions usually have). However, they did a great job in making it look 2D, and ultimately the things that were actually 2D illustrations didn't "stick out" - which a lot of early CG attempts in anime had the problem of (but is getting better).
The most information I've found on the subject has actually been from the Gantz DVDs, the behind the scene extras. But they only confirm the obvious in what goes into creating such effects.
Anyway, if anyone knows of any good sites detailing the production of any anime, I'd very much appreciate knowing as well.

I was listening to the commentary for one of the bits on the Animatrix. They were talking about the fact that the piece was entirely hand drawn, and how unusual that was these days.

Hi there... see the thread I started a week ago or so here:

Basically you need either a digital or optical compositor.
If you read through my posting and the replies (only I replied to myself, but I did find what I needed on my own) you will find many of the needed answers. If you follow this thread:

...you will see the results of my discoveries and a Work In Progress.
